The short answer
Is there a tirzepatide pill?
Not an FDA-approved one. Tirzepatide is approved only as an injection: Zepbound for weight and Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes.
Foundayo isn’t tirzepatide. It’s orforglipron, a different medicine from Lilly, approved April 1, 2026 as a once-a-day pill.
Compounded tablets exist. Some programs, NexLife included, offer compounded tirzepatide tablets that dissolve under the tongue ($229 a month at NexLife). They aren’t FDA-approved, and there’s little published research on how well tirzepatide is absorbed that way.

How often. Foundayo and the Wegovy pill are daily. Zepbound, the Wegovy pen and compounded injections are weekly.
Food and water. The Wegovy pill comes with rules about food and water. Lilly says Foundayo can be taken any time of day, without them.
What it costs. Pills start at $149 a month and reach $299 at higher doses. Compounded injections at NexLife stay $169 or $139 at every dose.
With insurance. Lilly says people with commercial insurance that covers Foundayo or Zepbound may pay as little as $25 a month.

Pills vs. injections: your questions
Does tirzepatide come in pill form?
Not as an FDA-approved medicine. Tirzepatide is approved as a weekly injection. Some programs offer compounded tablets, which aren’t FDA-approved.
Is Foundayo tirzepatide?
No. Foundayo is orforglipron, a different once-daily pill from Lilly, approved by the FDA on April 1, 2026.
How much is Foundayo without insurance?
$149 to $299 a month by dose through LillyDirect.
How much is the Wegovy pill?
$149 at 1.5 mg, $199 at 4 mg and $299 at 9 mg and 25 mg, through NovoCare.
Are compounded GLP-1 tablets FDA-approved?
No. Compounded tablets and injections aren’t FDA-approved, and research on how well tablets are absorbed is limited.
Which is cheaper, a GLP-1 pill or an injection?
At starting doses, pills are $149 a month. At higher doses the pills are $299, while compounded injections at NexLife stay $169 or $139 at every dose.
Can I switch from injections to a pill?
Possibly. It’s a new prescription, and your provider decides the medicine and the starting dose.
Important safety information
Compounded tirzepatide and semaglutide are not FDA-approved, and the FDA hasn’t reviewed them for safety, effectiveness or quality. Both medicines may cause thyroid tumors, including cancer: don’t use either if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).

In studies with rodents, both medicines caused thyroid tumors; it isn’t known whether they cause them in people. Tell your provider if you notice a lump or swelling in your neck, hoarseness, trouble swallowing or shortness of breath.
Serious side effects can include inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), gallbladder problems, low blood sugar (especially with insulin or sulfonylureas), kidney problems from dehydration, severe stomach problems, serious allergic reactions, vision changes in people with type 2 diabetes, and depression or thoughts of suicide. Tell your care team before any surgery or procedure that uses anesthesia or deep sedation. Don’t combine either medicine with other GLP-1 medicines.
Tirzepatide can make birth control pills less effective: use another method for 4 weeks after you start and after each dose increase. Semaglutide should be stopped at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy. Tell your provider if you’re pregnant, planning to be, or breastfeeding.
