Get startedHome / Research peptides vs. compounded GLP-1s
Cheap powder isn’t a prescription.
“Research use only” tirzepatide isn’t made for people: no prescription, no physician, no pharmacy label, and the FDA has warned sellers. A compounded GLP-1 is prepared by a state-licensed pharmacy for your prescription. At NexLife, that’s $169 a month, matched if you pay less†, for tirzepatide at every dose, all in.

Compounded medications aren’t FDA-approved, and the FDA doesn’t review them for safety, effectiveness or quality before they’re sold.
The warnings
Falsely labeled products. The FDA has warned companies that sold GLP-1 drugs labeled “for research purposes” or “not for human consumption” while marketing them to people with dosing directions.
Unknown quality. The FDA says illegally marketed semaglutide and tirzepatide could be counterfeit, contain the wrong ingredients, or have the wrong dose.
Retatrutide and cagrilintide. Neither is FDA-approved for any condition, and neither can be used in compounding under federal law.
Stopped at the border. An FDA import alert keeps GLP-1 ingredients from makers that haven’t shown compliance out of the U.S. supply.
A prescription comes with a physician, a pharmacy and a label. A research peptide comes with none of them.

The dose math
“30 mg” is the whole vial, not a dose. Research peptides are often sold as powder by the vial. You’d add liquid yourself and work out the dose.
That math is where errors happen. Even with prescriptions and labeled vials, the FDA has received reports of dosing errors with compounded semaglutide. Mixing your own powder adds another step to get wrong.
A prescription removes the guesswork. Your label shows the strength in mg per mL, and your provider tells you your dose in milligrams.

Selling GLP-1 drugs labeled “for research use only” to people is illegal, and the FDA has warned companies that do it. They aren’t made or checked for human use.
No. Compounded tirzepatide is prepared by a state-licensed pharmacy for your prescription. A research peptide has no prescription, no pharmacy and no label you can rely on.
Usually the total amount of powder in a vial, not a dose. Doses of prescribed tirzepatide range from 2.5 mg to 15 mg a week.
Not legitimately. It isn’t FDA-approved for any condition and can’t be used in compounding under federal law.
No physician, no licensed pharmacy, no testing you can verify, and no one to call. That’s what the lower price leaves out.
Tell a licensed provider what you took and how much. You can call or text us at (949) 818-8000, 24/7, and report problems to the FDA’s MedWatch program.
Compounded tirzepatide and semaglutide are not FDA-approved, and the FDA hasn’t reviewed them for safety, effectiveness or quality. Both medicines may cause thyroid tumors, including cancer: don’t use either if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
Read the full safety informationIn studies with rodents, both medicines caused thyroid tumors; it isn’t known whether they cause them in people. Tell your provider if you notice a lump or swelling in your neck, hoarseness, trouble swallowing or shortness of breath.
Serious side effects can include inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), gallbladder problems, low blood sugar (especially with insulin or sulfonylureas), kidney problems from dehydration, severe stomach problems, serious allergic reactions, vision changes in people with type 2 diabetes, and depression or thoughts of suicide. Tell your care team before any surgery or procedure that uses anesthesia or deep sedation. Don’t combine either medicine with other GLP-1 medicines.
Tirzepatide can make birth control pills less effective: use another method for 4 weeks after you start and after each dose increase. Semaglutide should be stopped at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy. Tell your provider if you’re pregnant, planning to be, or breastfeeding.
This is a summary, not the complete safety information. Read the full Prescribing Information for FDA-approved tirzepatide (Zepbound) and semaglutide (Wegovy), and talk with your provider. You can report side effects to the FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088 or fda.gov/medwatch.
